Pacific Hwy arrest after three separate police pursuits

A WILD ride involving three serarate police pursuits and lasting more than 200km has ended in several charges for an unlicensed driver.

Starting at Allgomera, south of Warrell Creek, police were involved in incidents with the driver of a yellow Hyundai accent all the way up to Harwood until an arrest was made.

About 4pm on Saturday, police observed a vehicle travelling at high speed on the Pacific Hwy at Allgomera. A pursuit was initiated by Mid North Coast Highway Patrol officers before being terminated.

About 4.55pm, police observed the same vehicle travelling at high speeds on the Pacific Hwy at Coffs Harbour and commenced a pursuit which was again terminated.

About 5.20pm, the vehicle was sighted and pursued for a third time on the Pacific Hwy at Halfway Creek.

During the third pursuit, police successfully deployed road spikes on the Pacific Hwy at Glenugie, deflating one of the vehicles tyres, before the pursuit was terminated.

All three pursuits were terminated due to safety reasons.

A short time later, the vehicle was located under the Harwood Bridge at Harwood.

Police from Grafton Highway Patrol approached the vehicle, when the driver allegedly tried to drive away to avoid apprehension.

The vehicle was stopped after colliding with a police vehicle and the driver, a 28-year-old Queensland man, was arrested.

He was taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with use weapon to avoid apprehension, larceny, unlicensed driver, and three counts of not stop drive dangerously (Skye's Law).

He was refused bail and will appear at Grafton Local Court today.
