Paid parking hours to be increased

RECOMMENDATIONS to increase paid parking hours in Burleigh Heads will be made to Gold Coast City Council on Monday, it was revealed today.

Councillor Greg Betts recommended the paid parking hours on West Street be increased from two hours to four hours to help local shoppers who do not have enough time to complete business appointments.

He said the parking spaces weren’t being properly utilised.

“There are provisions in the Whole of City Parking Strategy to change parking regulations to encourage greater use.” Mr Betts said.

“This decision will promote greater use of these pay and display spaces that are regularly left empty.”

The cost for on-street parking in West Street is $1.10 per hour Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am until noon.

Free parking was recently trialled in Burleigh Heads in the Gordon and Jean Duncan Car Park in Park Avenue and part of Alex Black Car Park in Ocean St.

Cr Betts reminded residents to read parking signage carefully to avoid fines.
