Pair charged over kidnapping

TWO men will appear in court today after a man was allegedly bound with rope, punched, kicked and hit with a hammer in a violent kidnapping at Tweed Heads South last night.

Tweed police began their investigation after the 26-year-old man ran into a bowls club looking for help.

It is believed the man had gone to a unit in Altair St about 6pm where he was held against his will for over two hours by three men.

Police allege he had his hands cable-tied and his legs bound together with a piece of rope before being punched, kicked and hit with a hammer.

He was able to escape at 8.30pm when he ran to a nearby bowls club where he was treated by paramedics.

He was later taken to Tweed Hospital for treatment for a broken nose and serious cuts and swelling to his face and body.

Tweed detectives have since arrested two men, aged 38 and 56.

They were taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with special aggravated detain for advantage, wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Both men were refused bail to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.

Police are continuing their investigations to locate a third man they believe was involved in the incident.
