Palm Beach pool boss facing axe

A GOLD Coast pool manager could be thrown out next week if council approves a recommendation to change the pool's management.

Palm Beach Olympic Pool manager Michael Wenden said the possibility of just six days notice would force the quick exit of the management team who have operated the pool for 34 years.

Mr Wenden said he learnt of a recommendation to Gold Coast City Council's finance committee that the current managers of the Palm Beach Olympic Pool be replaced.

“This is a recommendation that will be put to the committee tomorrow (Wednesday), and then by the full council on Friday,” Mr Wenden said.

“We weren't supposed to know until after the council meeting.

"Since our lease expires the following Friday, it means we would have been given six days notice.

“I think councillors would be embarrassed by the way this was handled.”

Mr Wenden said pool customers were taking it upon themselves to write to the council demanding an extension to the lease for the current managers.

A Gold Coast City Council spokesman said the council could not comment on any recommendations until they were submitted to the committee for consideration.
