Panthers tumble out of title race
IT’S all doom and gloom to report this week in premier league.
It was an abrupt end to the Pottsville Panthers side who were defeated 5-2 by Lismore in a match which had plenty of passion.
Pottsville had their goalkeeper Nathan Wilson sent off in the 10th minute. They found themselves down 3-0 at halftime. It has been a sensational season for the Panthers who finished third on the table, only to stumble in their last two matches.
This year’s FFNC coach of the year Dave Lonie stressed to his boys at halftime not to give up and show the heart they have all year. Pottsville scored two goals to reduce the score to 3-2 and give their supporters a glimmer of hope.
But Lismore Thistles had other ideas and scored two more goals to shut out the fast-finishing Panthers. Coach Lonie, also named in the FFNC premier league team of the year, was shattered and couldn’t believe what had happened.
“But I am full of promise for the whole team and club,” he said. “Also our coaching and fitness staff have performed their jobs to a high level. They all need to be congratulated, it gives as a good reason to show up next season and perform well.”
