Parko defeated by a fraction in Quiky Pro quarter-finals
TWEED local Joel Parkinson has been knocked out of the Quiksilver Pro after a nail-biting quarter-finals heat against Brazilian surfer Filipe Toledo this morning.
Parkinson was just 0.18 points behind Toledo when the heat’s end chimed, but some impressive moves from the Brazilian got him over the line.
Parko was the final Tweed surfer to remain in either the Quiksilver Pro or Roxy Pro at Snapper Rocks, after Kingscliff’s Steph Gilmore was knocked out of the World Surf League comp yesterday.
Meanwhile, reigning world champion Adriano De Souza was defeated 12.73 to 13.16 by Australian Matt Wilkinson in Heat Two.
NSW Central Coast surfer Adrian Buchan is currently facing off against Kolohe Andino, from the US, in heat three, before Hawaiian John John Florence and Lennox Head local Stuart Kennedy compete in heat four.
It’s expected an enduring 1-1.5 metre swell will see the semi-finals and finals for both the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro take place today.
