Parko remains Quiksilver Pro contender after Round Five win

JOEL Parkinson will proceed to the Quiksilver Pro quarter-finals after a Round Five win against Caio Ibelli on Tuesday afternoon.

After two false starts due to a lull in the swell and some troubles with his board, Parkinson made the most of the heat to secure a total score of 16.07, against his Brazilian rival's total of 12.66.

He will face Filipe Toledo, from Brazil, in the first heat of the quarter-finals.

Parkinson is the last remaining local in the event, after Stephanie Gilmore and Mick Fanning both bowed out.

Meanwhile, Tyler Wright (Australia) and world champion Carissa Moore (Hawaii) will face off in the Roxy Pro semi-finals, along with Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Johanne Defay (France).
