Cabbie's licence 'withdrawn' after woman harassed

TRANSLINK has confirmed that it has suspended the driver authorisation of a Garden City Cabs driver after receiving a complaint in regard to a fare last Saturday night.

Toowoomba resident Nancy Webb detailed in a Facebook post claims she was harassed by a driver who "offered to pay for (her) fare" and "asked for (her) mobile number" when using the service to travel home from a church event at 11.45pm on the evening of Saturday, January 27.

"I had to get a taxi late at night and after the initial small-talk the young male driver started talking about how he was looking for a girlfriend," Ms Webb's post read.

"He wanted to know how old I was and whether I was looking for a boyfriend. I told him no sorry, but he kept returning to the question. Garden City Cabs has since suspended the driver and Queensland Transport has withdrawn his taxi licence."

When the details of the incident including its location and time-frame were put to TransLink, a spokesman confirmed that action had been taken against a driver after it received a complaint made in regards to a fare on Saturday night.

"We're reviewing the complaint and have suspended the relevant driver authorisation pending the outcome of an investigation," a TransLink spokesman said.

Garden City Cabs denied a driver had been suspended in regard to Ms Webb's fare, but confirmed that a driver had been suspended "recently".
