Pawfect Gold Coast welcome from Borobi
COMMONWEALTH Games mascot, Borobi the Koala, came down from his tree on Wednesday to greet international visitors arriving at Gold Coast Airport.
Visitors arriving from Asia were all smiles upon receiving a greeting and wave from Borobi as they made their way into the terminal this morning.
Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer Marion Charlton welcomed the opportunity for Borobi to lend a paw in partnership with the airport in the lead up to 2018.
“This is the first time we’ve had Borobi here, he’s a very busy koala, but we’d like to have him here as often as we can,” Ms Charlton said.
“He’s an all-round cool guy who likes surfing and coffee, he’s very approachable and is someone everyone can identify with.”
Borobi’s appearance sets the platform for a partnership between Gold Coast Airport and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC).
Ms Charlton said the two parties would be working together to present the region at its best, leading up to and during the Games.
“We’re doing a lot with GOLDOC to make sure we’re ready to present the best of ourselves on behalf of the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games,” Ms Charlton said.
“The community of the Gold Coast and Northern NSW is really expecting us (Gold Coast airport) to perform during the games period, so we’re developing the terminal and we’ll have operational plans in place in time for the Games.
“It’s really nice that we have Borobi here, which shows the partnership between us and GOLDOC.”
