Pedestrian dies on Pacific Highway

BREAKING: A pedestrian has died after being hit by a truck on the Pacific Highway at Chinderah this afternoon.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman said the man was dead when paramedics arrived.

"The truck driver was taken to the Tweed Hospital," the spokesman said.

The truck driver was believed to be suffering chest pains.

A New South Wales Police media spokesman said the fatal collision occurred about 3.41pm, opposite the weigh bridge.

"Investigations are continuing," he said.

"Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane are open.

"Traffic is banked up and delays are expected for some time."

The Ballina Crash Investigation Unit was en route to the scene.
