Police also believe the Toowoomba man was bashed with an object before being run over on Wednesday.

TODAY 9.30AM: Police are investigating an incident at Highfields that has left a 58-year-old Toowoomba man with serious injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest about 3pm the man pulled over on the side of Cawdor Dr in his car and a white four-door 4WD utility pulled up behind him.

It is believed the male driver of the utility got out of the vehicle and assaulted the 58-year-old man with an unknown object.

Both vehicles have then driven down Cawdor Dr where they were involved in a further crash which resulted in the car being pushed into a ditch.

The 58-year-old man exited his vehicle and was struck by the utility.
