PEL 445 buyback welcome

TWEED’S anti-coal seam gas group has welcomed the Nationals’ move to buy back petroleum exploration licence (PEL) 445.

Lock the Gate Tweed’s Michael McNamara thanked the communities opposed to CSG for remaining “resolute in their opposition to gasfield industrialisation of the Tweed Valley and the broader Northern Rivers”.

“It is only because of this strong stand right across the community that we see action on this issue,” Mr McNamara said.

“It is about time that the government delivered on what was a very clear and unambiguous election pledge by the Member for Lismore Thomas George.”

Lismore MP Thomas George announced the buyback of Dart Energy’s PEL 445, which covered 565,000 hectares including the south-western region of the Tweed Shire, on Monday morning.
