Perfect finish not enough as Barney rolls on

TWO-time world champion Adrian Lewis threw a second nine-dart finish at the PDC World Championships but went on to lose a thriller to Dutch star Raymond van Barneveld at the Alexandra Palace in London.

Lewis (pictured) threw the perfect leg to win the opening set but was eventually knocked out 4-3 by van Barneveld, himself a five-time champion.

Sixteen-time champion Phil Taylor is also through but was pushed all the way in a 4-3 win over Belgium's Kim Huybrechts.

Taylor takes on Vincent van der Voort in the last eight after the Dutchman beat Dean Winstanley 4-2.

Stephen Bunting beat Michael Smith 4-2 to make the quarters where he will take on van Barneveld.

In the other last 16 ties, Peter Wright beat Andy Hamilton 4-0 to line up a clash with fellow Scot Gary Anderson, who beat qualifier Cristo Reyes 4-1.
