Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe re-signs for two more years

FOOTBALL: Kenny Lowe is set to become the longest-serving coach at Perth Glory after re-signing for a further two years.

The 54-year-old will surpass the record of Mich d’Avray, who was in charge of the club in the National Soccer League era from 2001-04.

Lowe, who was handed the Glory job at the start of the 2014-15 A-League season, has seen a big improvement on the field, with players such as Andy Keogh and Diego Castro, last year’s Johnny Warren Medal winner, bringing some quality to the West Australian outfit.

The Glory has also been linked with veteran Socceroos goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and England international Michael Carrick, and Lowe said his focus was on continuing the growth of the club.

“I am humbled, honoured and excited that (club owner) Tony (Sage) and (chief executive) Peter (Filopoulos) have shown trust and faith in me to be here for two more seasons after the current campaign,” he said.

“I am looking forward to the challenge of developing a long-term strategy of continued growth throughout the club from grassroots all the way up to the first team.”

Lowe said going forward, his plan was simple.

“I have always said from day one that if we can look back and say we helped Glory become a club that people throughout Australia respected and a club that any player in the country would love to come and play for and that fans were proud of, we will have created a successful and vibrant club,” he said.

Filopoulos said keeping Lowe at the club was key to help achieve targets set out in the four-year plan.

“With a clear strategy in place for the club, it was critical we extend Kenny’s contract to provide the environment and opportunity to drive our strategic objectives between now and 2020,” he said.
