Semitrailer carrying wood in fiery highway crash near Howard

UPDATE: A MAN has had a lucky escape after his station wagon collided with a semitrailer carrying wood in a fiery crash on the Bruce Hwy just north of Howard about 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said both drivers were airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries after the crash.

A fire was believed to be burning at the scene of the crash.

Initially, police reported the semitrailer was a petrol tanker but later said it was a semitrailer with a load of timber.

Queensland ambulance, police and fire officers were at the scene.

About 10pm, police said the highway would be closed for at least two hours.

There are no diversions available with motorists advised to stop and wait at either Childers or Maryborough.
