Phil helps out a battling mate

PHIL Taylor thinks it is important to help a friend in need; that is why he has donated a car to his friend Peter Bentley, who lost everything when fire destroyed the Bilambil Heights home he was staying in earlier this month.

The Murwillumbah car dealer said “losing a bit of money” by giving Mr Bentley the 1989 Honda Civic was nothing compared to what his friend has lost.

“He's lost everything from his false teeth to his glasses and other personal belongings,” Mr Taylor said.

“But life goes on, and Peter has a few health problems so he needs to get to his medical appointments, which is why I lent him the car in the first place.”

Mr Taylor sold Mr Bentley the 1980 XD Ford Falcon that melted and was damaged in the fire that destroyed Doug Oglivie's farmhouse in Urliup Road on May 5.

Downplaying his generosity, the owner of Taylor Made Cars will pay for a vehicle inspection and renew the registration on the Civic out of his own pocket, just to help his friend.

“Peter and I have known each other for a long time and I am in a position to help him.

“I said I would fix his Falcon, but that would take some time as it is melted and damaged, so I decided to give him the Civic. The Civic will be so much easier for Peter to handle with his bad back because it has power steering which the Falcon didn't. It will also be cheaper to run.”
