Phones out in Tyalgum, Chillingham

PHONE lines are down in Tyalgum and Chillingham and Telstra is advising residents to use their mobile phones where possible.

Both Tylagum Rd and Zara Rd are now flooded, cutting off the towns and limiting access for repair technicians.

The outages first occured around 9.30pm with ADSL broadband also affected.

Telstra Northern Rivers area general manager Sue Passmore said crews were attempting to fix the problem with the help of the State Emergency Service.

"We've got cable washed away impacting services in Chillingham and Tyalgum," Ms Passmore said.

"Mobile networks are up so people can use that service if they have access to it.

"The technicians are trying to access the sites to do some repairs but the flooding means they're having trouble getting through."
