MASTERCHEF'S Heaven and Hell Week was more hellish than heavenly for Pip Sumbak.
As the ninth contestant eliminated from MasterChef, Sumbak fell short of her own expectations on the reality cooking show.
The 23-year-old said she had a "real shocker" two days during Heaven and Hell Week.
"You don't know how many times I've gone back in my head - coulda, shoulda, woulda," she said.
"But in the moment my mind seemed to go blank.
"It was two days of me not thinking straight and I ended up at home."
Sumbak, Lucy Wallrock, Daniel Churchill and Daniel Kelty were asked to replicate Ian Curley's steak tartare in tonight's elimination challenge.
Plating up the two weakest dishes, Sumbak and Wallrock were then asked to replicate Curley's bombe Alaska dessert.
Sumbak over-whipped her meringue, and that one mistake proved to be the deciding factor.
Her elimination was all the more emotional thanks to her friendship with Wallrock.
"Lucy and I met at auditions… we really got on well," she said.
"We both backed ourselves as relatively good cooks in the pack.
"The outcome was bad either way."
The personal assistant said she still plans to one day combine her two loves of food and surfing by opening a surf retreat.
"I think it's a good combination," she said.
"All the judges said go for it. I know I have to go backwards to go forwards. I need experience and money behind me really. I've got to put my head down and get as much work as I can catering."
Tomorrow night, the remaining contestants are divided into two teams and between them must prepare a banquet for 70 diners using ingredients that represent the Seven Deadly Sins.
MasterChef airs Sundays through Thursdays at 7.30pm on Ten.
