Plane diverts to Gold Coast to avoid running out of fuel

THEY probably wished they had taken the bus.

A Qantas jet with 100 passengers flying from Melbourne to Brisbane had to divert to Gold Coast Airport last night.

The plane had been put in a holding pattern for nearly an hour when it was forced to divert to the Gold Coast to avoid running out of fuel.

The incident saw the two hour 15 minute trip blow out to seven hours and left the hapless passengers stranded at Coolangatta terminal in the middle of the night.
