Plans for illegal doof party shut down by police

POLICE have shut down plans for an illegal doof party on Jubullum land at Tabulam this weekend.

Richmond Local Area Command Chief Inspector Nicole Bruce said an estimated 5000-6000 tickets to the illegal 'Omega Festival' had already been sold.

"It's a dance party that we've been aware of for about the last week," she said.

"We've only just discovered the location today."

Chief Insp Bruce said there would be a continued police presence on the planned site all weekend, and anyone who tried to attend would be disappointed.

She said there were a number of dangerous breaches, including the festival's isolation, lack of facilities and the amount of time it would take ambulance to respond to any incidents.

"Without going through the proper procedures there's no risk assessment to ensure the participant's safety," she said.

"Usually drugs are synonymous with dance parties so there's always the underlining concern with drugs and particularly at this isolated location, it would take some time for ambulance assistance to get there."

Chief Insp Bruce said the festival had also been organised without the permission of land-owners and was therefore classed as trespassing.

She said police had been liaising with the Jubullam Aboriginal Land Council and established there was no permission granted to use the land and no council development application.

"We've given a direction for organisers continuing to set up the festival and we've also informed them they'll be trespassing if they don't leave the property," she said.

"They're trespassing on someone else's land with total disrespect for the law.

"We're going to have a continual police presence out there and we want the public to know that the dance party won't be going ahead at that site."
