Plenty of water but no water tanks
NEW South Wales Fair Trading deputy commissioner Steve Griffin visited Tweed Heads yesterday to warn residents about three suspicious water tank companies.
Mr Griffin said the warning related to Columbus Sales Group Pty Ltd, Aqua Conscious Pty Ltd and Christopher Bruce Smith of Columbus Sales Group Pty Ltd.
“Fair Trading has received more than 90 complaints from consumers who have bought water tanks or paid deposits and the tanks have not been supplied by these companies,” he said.
“The companies do not have a dispute resolution process in place for handling complaints or enquiries and the companies and Mr Smith have not been able to demonstrate to Fair Trading that they can fulfil orders.
“The companies and Mr Smith have continued to take new orders without the capacity to fulfil existing orders.”
Mr Griffin said the websites for the companies were not active and consumers were unable to contact the companies.
“We have had complaints from all over the country. There have been 200 complaints in NSW,” Mr Smith said. “We will continue to look into this and support consumers.”
Mr Smith said Tweed residents should look into a company's background before buying a large item like a water tank.
“Check if there has been a public warning regarding the business before you purchase,” Mr Smith said.
“Consumers who have made payments via credit card should contact their bank to request a charge back.”
Mr Smith urged residents to contact the Tweed Heads NSW Fair Trading office for more information.
