Help plea on machete robbery
POLICE have appealed for public help to locate a machete-wielding man who tied up two people before robbing a Mooball pub on Monday.
The pub's male licensee and a woman were in the bar area of the closed hotel about 8.45pm on Anzac Day when a man smashed a window with a machete and entered the hotel.
He threatened the pair with the machete before taking money from various cash registers.
The man then ordered them upstairs to the main office, demanding money from the safe, and tied them to a railing.
No one was injured.
Tweed Police crime manager Detective Inspector Shane Diehm said police were working continually on the case.
“We're still appealing to the public for information and are following a number of line of inquiries," he said.
Det Insp Diehm said the incident was the first armed robbery the area has had for a long time.
“It is a concern,” he said. “We're asking people and business owners to be vigilant and if they see anybody acting suspiciously to contact police.”
Anyone with information that might be able to assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
