Police arrest child care worker over rapes
CHILDREN younger than 10 were repeatedly raped at a Sydney childcare centre, police have alleged.
A 27-year-old child care worker was arrested on Tuesday night following an investigation into allegations that two children, aged eight and nine, were sexually assaulted while in after-school care at a north-western centre.
Detectives from the Child Abuse Squad charged the man with three counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 10, five counts of aggravated indecent assault and one count of persistent sexual abuse of a child. He was refused bail.
Speaking to reporters in Sydney on Wednesday, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione described the allegations as "atrocious" but said it would be inappropriate to comment further while the case was before the courts.
Parents of children attending the centre have been informed of the arrest.
Investigations are continuing.
