Police bear the brunt of violence this Easter
NSW police have had a rough time controlling alcohol-related violence this Easter.
It's understood 10 people around the state were charged with assaulting police during the second night of Operation Unite, which began on Friday April 18.
The nationwide operation is an ongoing initiative targeting alcohol-related crime and antisocial behaviour.
Police arrested 254 people on the second night of the operation, with 324 charges laid.
Fourteen people were charged with assault and 10 people were charged with assaulting police.
The operation's commander, Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald, said it's concerning to see the number of people charged with assaults and assaulting police.
"Not only are we seeing people charged with assault, for both nights of the operation we have seen a total of 17 people charged with assaulting police," Supt Fitzgerald said.
"These officers are out in force attempting to protect the community and reduce the impact of alcohol-related violence, so for them to be targeted by those they are trying to assist is unacceptable."
While at least two Tweed police officers were assaulted in the last week, it's unclear if the region added to the weekend statistics.
