Police busted 86 drink drivers in Tweed last year
TWEED Heads has the third worst drink-driving record on the Northern Rivers with 86 court attendance notices issued for the offence last financial year, according to police statistics released under freedom of information.
Tweed Heads' DUI record was smashed by Byron Bay with 284 offences and Lismore with 124, between November 2012 and October 2013.
But the good news is that the number of DUIs detected in the local region dropped last financial year.
Tweed Heads fell 14 from the 98 racked up between November 2011 and October 2012.
The next worse DUI record locally was Tweed Heads south on 39 notices issued last financial year, followed by Murwillumbah and Banora Point on 26 and Kingscliff on 14.
Across the Northern Rivers, 852 people were charged with drink-driving in the 12 months to October 2013.
