Police catch Banora Point graffiti vandal

A VIGILANT citizen helped Tweed Police catch a 26-year-old Banora Point graffiti vandal.

Reports came in from a Banora Point resident about two men acting suspiciously in Pioneer Pde about 11pm on October 17.

When police from Tweed Byron LAC arrived they found the two men walking along the street, wearing dark clothing, and noticed one of them throw something behind a bush. This turned out to be a paint spray can.

Police spoke with the males and the 26-year-old, who had fresh paint on his hands, was arrested.

Continued investigation by the police officers unveiled paint 'tags' on a large sign overlooking the M1 Motorway southbound and on a nearby boundary fence. The 'tags' were the same colour as the spray can.

The 26-year-old from Banora Point will face Tweed Heads Local Court on November 4, charged with deface property with graffiti implement and possess graffiti implement with intent to damage or deface.

Tweed Police said they will also be seeking compensation on behalf of the victim.
