Police charge lifeguard after couple run over on beach

QUEENSLAND Police have charged a lifeguard who allegedly ran over a couple on Surfers Paradise beach late last year.

Police charged the 24-year-old man this week with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle over the December 23 incident.

The Brisbane couple, aged in their 20s, were hospitalised with leg and chest injuries after being run over by the Gold Coast City Council Lifeguard Service 4WD late in the afternoon.

The lifeguard will face Southport Magistrates Court on February 5.
