POLICE are investigating the death of a man after his car plunged into the Tweed River.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon off the Old Ferry Road at Oxley Cove.

A New South Wales Police spokesman said police will prepare a report for the coroner.

“Just after 5pm yesterday a car was reported to be submerged in the Tweed River at Terranora,” the spokesman said.

“Police divers and local police today (Friday) recovered the body of a 53-year-old man inside the vehicle,” he said.

“Police are not treating the death as suspicious.”

Forensic investigators from Lismore and police divers from Sydney were at the scene yesterday.
