Police dog squad track down teen after traffic crash
A TOOWOOMBA teenager has been charged after a white ute crashed out front of a Bridge St home.
Toowoomba police shift supervisor Sergeant Greg Wheeler said the 19-year-old learner driver and a passenger fled the scene of the crash about midnight last night.
"The dog squad tracked the occupants and located the driver," Sgt Wheeler said.
He said the squad tracked the teenager for about an hour before they found him.
A Bridge St resident reported hearing a vehicle sliding downhill across a nature strip before colliding with a tree.
When the resident came out of his home to investigate, the ute was already empty.
A search for the passenger was unsuccessful, with police still keen to catch up with the person.
The 19-year-old was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing a utensil, failing to displaying an L plate, failing to comply with the duties of a driver in a crash, failing to wear a seatbelt, failing to maintain proper control of a vehicle and failing to comply with requirements of a learner licence.
After further investigation he was also charged with stealing, fraud and possessing a utensil.
The teenager is due to front Toowoomba Magistrates Court on February 23
