Police drop trafficking charges against ex-NRL star
BREAKING: Drug trafficking charges against former Australian State of Origin star and Toowoomba publican Jason Paul Smith have been dropped by police.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Alastair Windsor told Toowoomba Magistrates Court that police had no evidence to offer on the trafficking in cocaine charges.
Magistrate Damian Carroll dismissed the trafficking charges against Smith.
Smith was instead charged with seven counts of supplying cocaine between June 1, 2014 and January 3, 2015.
It is believed the supply charges come under the wider definition of the legislation and allege Smith supplied the drug to himself.
Smith was committed to stand trial on the supply charges in the Toowoomba District Court at a date to be set.
Smith was remanded on bail.
