Scooter rider attempts to rob servo after stealing softdrink

POLICE are investigating an attempted robbery by a Coke-loving moped rider at an Ipswich service station.

Investigations are continuing into the attempted robbery late last month.

A police spokeswoman said that about 7.30pm on December 22, a man drove into the United service station on Brisbane Rd at Booval on a scooter and parked it just outside the front door.

The spokeswoman said the man took off his helmet, walked in to the store and went over to the fridges and stole two bottles of Coke.

"He walked back out to his scooter and put on his helmet, then some time later walked back in and demanded money. He saw the attendant counting money," the spokeswoman said. "When the attendant moved towards the panic button, he went back outside, got on his scooter and rode away."

The man was last seen driving away from the service station on the moped.

The attendant wasn't physically injured during the attempted robbery.

The man is described as Caucasian, about 183cm tall and with a solid build with black hair.

Police believe the person pictured may be able to assist with inquiries.

The service station is next to the Hungry Jacks outlet and opposite Llewellyn Hyundai.
