Second arrest on 2008 death

POLICE have charged a second person in relation to the death of a man in a Palm Beach motel room in 2008.

A Currumbin woman faces manslaughter charges following the investigation into the death of 20-year-old Tyler James Smith.

On August 12, 2008, Mr Smith was found dead in a Palm Beach motel room from an apparent drug overdose.

The Serious and Violent Crime Squad reviewed the case late last year and arrested a 24-year-old man earlier this month for manslaughter.

The 31-year-old Currumbin woman was also charged with manslaughter today.

South Eastern Police Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said the arrests finalised the investigation.

"These arrests demonstrate the commitment of the Queensland Police Service and the South Easter Region to thoroughly investigate serious criminal offences," Det Supt Hutchinson said.

"Unsolved cases are never closed and police will continue to review outstanding matters of a serious nature."

The woman is expected to appear before the Southport Magistrates Court on January 24.

The man appeared before the court on January 18 and will reappear in March.
