Police hunt man over vile bashing

GRAFTON police have been checking on a series of residences in the Grafton area known to have connections with a man allegedly responsible for the serious assault of a pregnant woman in South Grafton on Sunday.

Police duty officer Inspector Scott Parker said the man allegedly punched a mid-term pregnant woman near the Bent St Car Wash about noon on Sunday.

He said the woman was knocked to the ground and the man continued to punch her in the face and abdomen area.

He said that members of the public stepped into stop the assault and, after the assault was finished, the offender rode off on a bicycle.

"Police are grateful to members of the public went to the woman's aid," he said.

Inspector Parker said the offender was known to police and they were checking regular haunts.

"Police have spoken to a number of witnesses and initiated multiple attempts to arrest the person," he said.
