Police investigate bashing of 81-year-old man in the Tweed

POLICE are appealing for information following the assault of an elderly man in Tweed Heads on Wednesday afternoon.

About 2.30pm an 81-year-old man was walking along the boardwalk near the edge of Jack Evans Boat Harbour, when he was approached by a man who began to verbally abuse him.

He attempted to walk away from the man but was struck in the back a short time later, causing him to stumble.

The man fled the location and was last seen walking toward Bay St.

The 81-year-old was treated for minor injuries, but did not require hospitalisation.

Tweed Byron Local Area Command is now investigating the incident and would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist with their investigation.

The man is described as being of a Caucasian appearance with a pale complexion, aged in his 20s, about 168cm tall and of a stocky build.

He was last was wearing khaki coloured shorts, no shirt and carrying a backpack.
