4.30PM: The suspect device has been been destroyed by a controlled detonation.

The emergency situation was revoked at 4.20pm.

Road closures and cordons have been lifted.

3PM: Police have declared an emergent situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act at Yaamba Rd.

More specialist police are expected on scene.

2PM: Members of the Explosive Ordnance Response Team are currently on site.

They will x-ray the suspect device.

The road closure remains in place.

YAAMBA Rd in Norman Gardens, between the service station and the hardware store, has been closed as police investigate a suspect device.

The item was found on the fence line of the Caltex service station just after 10am.

The discovery follows the controlled detonation of a suspicious device in Townsville on Saturday.

That object was found in a rubbish bin in a park at Heatley around 11.30am.

An emergency situation was declared and specialist police made the decision to blow up the device.

Police have appealed for anyone who may know about the device to come contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
