Policeman who suffered head injury during arrest flown out

A HERVEY Bay police officer has been airlifted to Brisbane with a broken collarbone and a head injury after an alleged struggle with a man on the Esplanade about 1.30pm on Sunday.

Officers were allegedly attempting to arrest a man when a struggle ensued and the male constable subsequently fell to the ground.

The 36-year-old officer was in Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition, police said.

Police said a 34-year-old Urangan man was charged with serious assault police causing bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place.

He is due to appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on June 27.
