Police probe Tweed double stabbing

POLICE are trying to unravel the circumstances that led to two men being admitted to hospital with stab wounds on Sunday.

During the early hours of Sunday morning, police said a 24-year-old man attended a unit in Stuart St, Tweed Heads, and located a man and woman, both 19.

A short time later, the trio left the address in two separate vehicles.

The teenage man and woman attended Tweed Hospital, where the man sought treatment for a number of stab wounds to the back.

He was later transferred to Gold Coast Hospital for specialist treatment.

The 24-year-old man was located at Yamba after police stopped a vehicle.

He was admitted to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment to a stab wound to the stomach.

Tweed Byron crime manager Detective Inspector Shane Diehm said yesterday afternoon both men remained in hospital and were receiving treatment for their wounds.

“They are both in a stable condition,” Det Insp Diehm said.

“Investigations are underway and both males are assisting police with their inquiries.

"We're still appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything or with any information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or Tweed Heads Police on 07 55360999.”
