Police ready to rock 'n' book
GOLD Coast Police are bringing in the reinforcements to help keep an eye on the Cooly Rocks On festival this year.
The mounted units will arrive in Coolangatta on Saturday just in time to start patrols during this year's parade.
Coolangatta Police Sergeant Brandon Carr said the main concern was traffic management.
"There is going to be an increased presence in relation to public order offences," Sgt Carr said.
"Motorcycles will be the most advantageous because they can respond quickly in those areas it is difficult to get car units."
Sgt Carr said there would also be more police patrols around licensed areas on Marine Pde.
Tweed Police Inspector Darren Steel said there was no action plan for this weekend because it was a Coolangatta festival.
"We will be watching closely from the other side of the fence," Insp Steel said.
More than 1200 hot rod and classic cars are expected to be at the festival, as well as 5000 visitors.
Marine Pde and Griffith St will also be closed.
