Police seek information after break in and assault

TWO elderly women have fallen victim to aggravated break and enters in two days. 

A second elderly woman was attacked about 3.20am Friday morning, Tweed Byron LAC detective inspector Brendon Cullen said.

Insp Cullen said the second incident occurred at a Lloyd St, Tweed Heads South home. 

"We are investigating if there are any links between the two," Insp Cullen said.

POLICE have appealed for information after a woman was assaulted and robbed in her Tweed Heads home on Thursday morning.

The woman, 69, was woken at about 5.15am by a loud noise from the lounge room of her Adelaide St home.

The male intruder allegedly entered her bedroom and demanded she get out of bed.

Police were told the man then pulled her out of bed and struck her in the face.

The woman said she had no money, before handing over a small amount of cash from her handbag.

When he fled the unit through the front door, the woman followed her alleged intruder to the garbage bin area.

The man then fled the area on foot.

The 69-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Tweed-Byron LAC police were contacted and patrolled the area, but could not locate the man.

Police have released a brief description of a man they believe could assist with their inquiries.

He was described as being of Caucasian appearance, young with a slim build and average height.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark chequered hoodie, which concealed his head and face.
