Police seek would-be thieves who assaulted man in Tweed

POLICE are searching for two men who were involved in an attempted robbery in Tweed Heads South on Friday.

About 4.15pm, a cash-in-transit officer, 35, was attached by the two men near McDonalds on Minjungbal Dr.

The two men assaulted the officer with a baseball bat.

The cash-in-transit officer fired his gun in retaliattion. 

The accused men ran from the scene empty-handed. 

They fled along Minjungbal Dr and down Parry St. 

Emergency services were called to the scene and treated the officer, who had been left with a number of injuries. 

He was taken to Tweed Hospital for further treatment. 

Tweed-Byron LAC detectives commenced an investigation into the incident and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

One of the accused was described as wearing dark-coloured pants and a hooded jumper, the other wore an orange hooded-jumper. 

Both of the accused had bandanas covering their face.
