Police want to talk to a man named ‘Stick’ about assault
QUEENSLAND Police have re-released CCTV footage of a man wanted for questioning over an assault at Coolangatta in 2008.
Police say a case involving a serious assault where a man lost vision in his eye remains unsolved.
According to police,at about 12.50am on Sunday, November 23, a 44-year-old NSW man was walking along Marine Pde, between Dutton and Warner streets, when he was stopped by a group of people and asked to take their photograph.
At the same time, a separate group of four men, were walking down Marine Pde and stopped when they came across the victim taking the photograph.
One of the men took the camera from the victim, and when asked to return it he assaulted the victim, punching and kicking him.
The victim fell to the ground, striking his face on a table. He was treated in hospital on both on the Gold Coast and Brisbane for a serious eye injury that resulted in a total loss of vision in one eye.
The four men then left the scene.
The incident occurred during celebrations when Australia beat New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup in November 2008.
The man police wish to question may be known as 'Stick'. He is described as being tall and was wearing long dark pants and a dark t-shirt.
Police are appealing for anyone who may recognise the man, who is the male on the left hand side of the footage who lifts up his t-shirt, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
