Police warn of daily break-ins
BREAK and enter offences are becoming commonplace in Tweed, with police revealing criminals are attacking homes and cars almost every night.
Tweed police Inspector Greg Jago said while no particular area had been targeted in the last few days the offences made constant work for police.
"Unfortunately they're almost every night," Insp Jago said.
"They're random and all over the place."
The comments follow a string of offences in Koala Beach, Pottsville on Monday last week.
Five houses in the housing estate were targeted with valuables stolen.
The problem stopped when police made a deliberate effort to have a conspicuous presence in Pottsville in the week that followed.
Those offences followed a similar problem in Banora Point late last year, although police have maintained that issue has since settled down.
Police are begging residents to safeguard themselves and their property against criminals.
How to safeguard yourself and your property:
- Keep valuables out of sight and don't leave them in parked cars.
- Don't assume thieves will avoid house when you are at home. Thieves can strike even if you're in the next room.
- Always lock doors and windows, even if you trust the neighbourhood, and always lock your car.
- Report all suspicious behaviour to police via Police Link on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
