Pop-up generating art buzz in Kingscliff

AN ART gallery called Artspace K has popped into Kingscliff.

The pop-up gallery outside the Azura building is creating a buzz around town with its colourful display of works by five artists from the area.

The group has been busy preparing the space for its grand opening tonight.

Showcasing the work of Ian Tremewen, Lorraine Abernethy, Stephen Baxter, Shane Drinkwater and Judy Anderson, the new gallery will turn the once-vacant shopfront into a hive of colour and composition.

One of the five artists, Ms Abernethy, studied at Tweed River High before going on to a 30-year career as an artist.

"We have all had extensive careers and have exhibited all over Australia and the world," Mrs Abernethy said.

"The five artists are all in their 50s and 60s but have different backgrounds.

"Ian Tremewan has strong connections with Hawaii, Shane with France and we have all been in major exhibitions and travelled widely."

The works are already gaining interest from around the world, with major pieces already sold before tonight's opening.
