Pottsville High School still more than 10 years away

IT will be five to 10 years before Pottsville has its own high school, Tweed State MP Geoff Provest says.

Mr Provest said it will definitely happen but any earlier would be detrimental to Kingscliff High School where most Pottsville students currently attend.

He had been advised by the principal that student numbers would drop at Kingscliff to a point they would be unable to continue to offer the full array of subjects if a new high school was built at Pottsville.

Mr Provest said enrolments were down again at secondary schools on the Tweed this year, consistent with a three-year trend.

He believes local students have been increasingly enrolling at private schools locally and in Queensland.
There has been a campaign by parents and local politicians in recent years for a high school to be built at Pottsville.
