Coffs Harbour missing pair sighting a false alarm

UPDATED, Wed 8.45am:  The sighting was a false alarm, a police media spokesman has confirmed.

UPDATED, 4.05pm: There's an unconfirmed report of a sighting of the missing Pottsville dad and daughter near Coffs Harbour late this afternoon.

A member of the public has informed police that two people matching the description of the missing pair have been sighted on the Pacific Highway just near the Big Banana tourist attraction.

Four police vehicles have been dispatched to search the area.

More information as it comes to hand.

UPDATED, 2.16pm:  Police from POLAIR have resumed the search for a man and girl at Pottsville this afternoon.

Inspector Gary Cowan from Tweed Byron Local Area Command said no trace had been found of the pair despite extensive land, water and air searches which had included surf life saver club members.

Insp Cowan thanked members of the public who have also taken part in the search upon their own initiative, including kayakers.

There was reportedly a false alarm this morning when a hitchhiker and girl at Nambucca Heads were taken into custody under suspicion of being the missing pair.

But the mother of Eeva Dorendahl, Michelle, had ruled them out.
