Man attacked, head stomped on
A NEWLY engaged Pottsville man was yesterday fighting for his life after allegedly having his head stomped on in a savage attack outside a Byron Bay hotel on Saturday night.
Dallas Arnold, 31, was listed late yesterday as being in a serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Gold Coast Hospital.
A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed he had suffered serious head and facial injuries and had been admitted to the hospital on Saturday night.
An Ocean Shores man accused of the attack remains in Grafton jail after being charged with attempted murder.
Nicholas Stafford Sharp, 27, appeared briefly in Lismore Local Court charged with three offences - attempting to murder Mr Arnold by stomping on him, using violence to cause fear and intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.
Police accuse Sharp of punching and kicking Mr Arnold before stomping on his head.
Sharp's legal aid lawyer Ben Cochrane made no application for bail, instead he asked for the matter to be adjourned one week when Sharp would formerly apply for bail.
The charges result from an alleged assault at 10.50pm on Saturday outside the Great Northern Hotel after a dispute between the two men, who had been in Jonson Street with different friends.
Magistrate Jeff Linden adjourned the matter to March 17 with Sharp to appear by way of video-link from the Grafton jail.
Police charged Sharp on Sunday.
Mr Arnold was first taken to Byron Bay hospital and then to Tweed Heads hospital.
Because of the serious nature of his injuries, he was transferred to the Gold Coast.
A friend at the home of Mr Arnold said the family did not want to comment.
