Power-packed Carrera GT one of the best Porsches produced

TODAY'S coverage is of, in my opinion, the best road car Porsche has ever produced. I present the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.

This beast is equipped with a 5.7-litre, 40 valve V10 engine which was designed by Porsche in 1992 for the Footwork Formula 1 team, but was later shelved until 2004 when the Carrera GT was born.

This engine can produce up to 451 kilowatts (605 horsepower) @ 8000rpm and 589 Newton metres of torque (435 pound-feet of torque) @ 5750 rpm.

This Porsche's predecessor is the Porsche 911 GT1 Straßenversion, which in English means "street version".

This vehicle was literally a road-going race car, and there were only 25 versions built.

Unlike the 911 GT1, there were 1270 versions of the Carrera GT produced.

In 2013, a successor to this automobile will be born, the Porsche 918 Spyder, which will also be produced in limited numbers.

Connected to the engine on this "Basalt Black Metallic" Carrera GT is a six-speed manual transmission (the only gearbox available), which then sends all the power to the rear wheels. Also, this particular model has a kerb weight of 1380 kilograms.

This allows the Carrera GT to launch from 0-100kmh in just under four seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its top speed of 330kmh (205 miles per hour).

Some other features that this particular Porsche is equipped with includes a Targa roof (removable hard top), speed sensitive wipers, a rear spoiler which raises at 110kmh (70 miles per hour), 20-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, double-wishbone front and rear suspension, four-wheel ABS as well as traction control, self-levelling xenon high intensity discharge headlights, an engine immobiliser, seatbelt pretensioners, front and rear ventilated carbon ceramic disc brakes, front fog lights, a leather interior with front sport seats, interior air filtration, alloy and leather trim on the dash, centre console and doors, a leather steering wheel and much more.

In Australia, the Porsche Carrera GT is not road legal because it is only available in left hand drive, it is too low and also too noisy. Saying this, there are some in Australia but you can only use them for track days.

The only way to get one in Australia is to import it from the United States and you can currently buy one over there for about $340,000.
