Power relief in Queensland

TWEED residents would get relief from rising power bills if they moved to Queensland.

Electricity bills for NSW residents were set to rise by up to 18% after the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal decided the increase was necessary to maintain infrastructure and for energy companies to comply with the Federal Government’s Renewable Energy Target scheme.

But across the border Queensland residents were offered relief, with the scrapping of the Ambulance Levy that was included on all electricity bills.

Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser made the announcement to abolish the Ambulance Levy, which will save residents $113 a year, as part of the 2011-12 budget.

Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said the discrepancy in electricity prices between NSW and QLD needed to be reviewed.
