PM denies plans to sack six of his ministers

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott has rejected speculation he is planning to reshuffle his Cabinet, after reports up to six ministers could get the sack.

The Daily Telegraph reported Mr Abbott may be considering the reshuffle, but it did not mention removing Treasurer Joe Hockey from his role, despite recent reports Mr Hockey's job was in danger.

It was reported ministers potentially facing the sack included Ian MacFarlane, Jamie Briggs, Eric Abetz, Kevin Andrews and Andrew Robb among others.

It comes despite Mr Briggs being widely seen as a rising star in the Coalition and Mr Robb's role in securing free trade deals - one of the government's key achievements.

While there has been speculation Social Services Minister Scott Morrison could be elevated to the Treasurer's office, the report did not say that change was being considered.

Mr Abbott said yesterday he had seen the report, but "They're wrong", and that "end of year reports of a reshuffle are dime-a-dozen".

He said he did not intend to engage in "Canberra insider gossip".

Instead, the PM repeated he was focused on jobs and economic growth.

It follows the second anniversary of the Coalition government on Monday, when a Newspoll showed voter support for Mr Abbott's government had fallen on every measure since September 2013.
