Prisoner accused of throwing faeces at guard

A WACOL prisoner allegedly threw faeces on a prison guard and covered his tracks by putting a towel over a CCTV camera.

Dwayne John Small is on trial in Brisbane District Court after pleading not guilty to unlawfully assaulting a corrective services officer in 2012.

It is alleged Small threw a cup of liquid, which the Crown submitted was faeces, at officer Brett Coad at the Brisbane Correctional Centre in April, 2012.

The jury heard on Monday22/7 there was footage which showed Mr Small using a towel to sweep up fluid from the jail floor before he flicked the towel towards the ceiling where a vent was.

While the footage was not of the alleged assault, the Crown submitted it showed Mr Small was able to block the similarly-positioned camera at will.

"This could be the mechanism used early in the day to throw faeces and liquid on the complainant," the prosecutor told the court.

The trial continues.
